Hi all,

I have an Asus P5W DH Deluxe Rev 1 board in this pc that seems to be starting to show it's age. The battery is crapping out now and also it doesnt always pickup the 2nd HD on bootup.

The other problem with this board is that I cant really clock my Q6600 G0 past 3ghz.

I have a 2nd machine thats not really used these days with a Gigabyte GA-P35-D3SL motherboard. It's a year or so newer than the Asus board and I was wondering if I should swap them around and see if I could get the Q6600 to clock a bit better and max out my ATI5850.

I'm running Win7 64 and assume it's going to be best for a complete re install of everything if I swap, so i'm basically wondering if it will be worth it?

Do you think that the gigabyte board might clock a bit better thatn the older Asus board?

Thanks,
Matt.

I think the p35 will clock the q6600 better than P5, I had a p5kc and it was a horrible board, couldn't get passed 2.8ghz.

You will have to reinstall 7, a fresh install is always yummy though.

actually, i put my nice shiny new board in and booted up without thinking, and windows 7 just installed a load of new drivers without batting an eyelid. far from ideal, but much farther from unuseable.

i did a clean install about a week later...

thanks guys, encouraging. I'm not shy of a re install, it's just time and hassle you know? :)

I'm basically trying to stave off the upgrade bug right now, use the bits I have at hand the best I can. If I can get the Q6600 up a bit more on the overclock I might just get a small SSD, a H50 or some such cooler and call it done until the next gen of cpu's etc come out.
