Swapping Motherboards

Hello,

This is more of a general question. If one was to upgrade motherboard, is it as simple as "unplugging" the old motherboard and installing components into the new one?

If the same hard drives / boot drive etc. are installed will Windows work the same as before?

So basically can you just literally swap the motherboard and then plug and play?

I always tend todo a fresh install especially if your changing chipsets.

What are you looking to change to?

Well I recently put together my build , you can see it in my sig.

I was working on a budget, and the Motherboard - although very good - uses an older chipset as opposed to the 990fx chipsets that are around now.

I was looking at the asus sabertooth board. The reason for this is i'm hoping to begin my first (ever) overclock soon, when my Noctua DH-14 arrives.

From some information i've sourced, my older chipset may hinder my overclocking capability. Is this true?

edit: I'd only be pushing for 4.00 maybe 4.2 on the overclock, perhaps I should stick with my current mobo (assuming it can handle that oc) until next gen CPU's come out?

Ive just changed from P67 to Z77 and Windows 7 picked up everything.

Just had to update the new intel inf, usb3 etc

Yes, just made sure I updated to the latest chipset drivers and everything is fine.

In theory it should work absolutely fine - I would just personally do a re-install
