Silly question i suspect  but here we go.
i have an oem vista 64 disc and code bought from here, but have resantly moved to windows 7 64. My fathers computer has just gone pop needing a new mobo and hd , which i have just orderd from here . AS he has a core 2 duo i want to install the 64 bit os. will microsoft allow activation ??? he only has a 32 bit licence but with the changes it will be noticed as a new machine anyway i would imagine ???

Ahh, my favourite... the good old "can I re-use an OEM disc on another machine?" debate, had many a mudslinging match with this one.

The short story is that:

1) It *will* install and you should be able to re-activate via a phone call to an automated system.

2) It is no different to installing a pirate copy of windows on the machine, the license for OEM windows only covers the first machine it is installed on, and it is non-transferrable.

If you are happy to break the license agreement then there is very little in the way of stopping you doing so.

Yup, you are presented with a phone number and a code sequence on screen, when you dial the number a machine asks you to enter the code, then reads it back to you, then it tells you the new serial code to enter to validate the install.
