So I'm going to putting a new GPU in this weekend and I was wondering if there's a correct way to do things to avoid corrupting things etc, etc.

Un-install all drivers before the power off
Download latest drivers for the new video card (dont use the ones on the cd that comes with it) then
uninstall AMD drivers before the power off from control panel/programs and features
Take your old card out, put your new card in, plug in the PCIE connectors and monitor cable. Power on PC, install new drivers.
It is that simple. Just out of interest what are you replacing the R9 290 with ?
