Swapsies?

i think ones you use your orange box you can give it away at least you give your all steam account

once the game is registered to a steam account the only way you can give the game away is to give away your steam account. (at least i think that's what he meant)

So you want to give away a free electronic/copy (via free gift you get with orange box) for someones hard/pysical copy of COD4?

I thought with the new gift system you can give all the individual games away?

What is a Steam gift purchase?
When you purchase a game on Steam, we offer the option to “gift” the item to anyone you choose, whether or not the recipient is a current Steam user. The recipient will receive the gift as an attractive e-mail card with a personal message from you and instructions to redeem the game.

A Steam gift purchase is a one-time transfer—after the recipient has activated and installed the game, it is a non-refundable game in his or her Steam games collection. Also note that you may only gift new purchases—you may not transfer games you already own. That’d be like wrapping up and presenting the toaster you’ve used every morning for the past year.

How can I purchase Steam Gifts for a different Steam user?
To give a gift to a friend or family member, locate the game you would like to gift on the Steam Storefront and then click the "purchase" button. As you are reviewing your order, you will see a notice that asks "Is this a gift?". Click the check box next to "Yes, it's a gift" and hit "next". If the Steam account you are making the purchase on already has a subscription to the game that you are attempting to gift, it will default to a gift purchase.

So you can't gift games that you already own!

The Orange Box is a slightly different case - where you CAN gift some games in the collection, if you already own them.

The games you can gift are "Half-Life 2" and "Half-Life 2: Episode One". These can be gifted at any time to someone else.

Dont see why you cant swap keys with someone as long as you dont play orange box and they dont play COD4 (or vise versa)

Or is it illegal to swap keys?

edit - forgot with steam stuf it ties it to your account. Unless you give away your account i dont think so.

Other games like crysis, cod4 etc can be swapped though

I don't think there is anything illegal about swapping game keys - but it will most likely break the EULA for that game and so I would doubt that it would be allowed on these forums.

Still...doesn't help me - I don't have a key to swap! Think I'll just have to buy it through Steam, which will hurt

That's because there is nothing anyone can say to help you :)

AFAIK (see link in my earlier post) Steam physically won't let you swap keys/games once they have been registered with your account (except for Half Life 2 and Ep1, if purchased as part of the Orange Box)

And even if you didn't have the Steam version, then I think swapping keys/games would break the EULA and so asking on here would likely not get you very far.

So basically, yeah I think you're going to have to buy it if you want it :)
