Swearing. What's acceptable?

I have no idea why anybody needs to swear on here
I've got to quite a few thousand posts without swearing.
In fact I think there should just be a ban and that would solve the problem.
Putting 4 stars and an 'ing' at the end isn't exactly a family friendly forum.

(I have done it but only when part of a story when it was a big part of the story but I would quite happily never do it)

Because frankly to most people, it isn't swearing. Sure if i use it in context to abuse you, fair enough. But if i'm describing a ****ing huge slice of cake, that's just an extra description nothing more (imo).

Quite...I understand the difficulty for moderation and the reasons for a blanket ban, I was only illustrating the point Biohazard was making.:)

We understand the point, but if we removed the swear filter, had 20 different rules as regards to what swearwords are allowed, how the swearword is allowed in context, in posting yourself, in posting videos, images. I am sure no one would know what the rules are and everyone would be banned.

A simple rule is to just say, no swearing at all. Everyone should get that, and cannot be that hard to follow. Thousands of members on here manage okay, another thousand may slip up, but tend to understand. :)

I think the autofilters should be modified so that instead of stars it inserts humorous words.

Good call! :D

As for swearing, I very seldom do it, in person or on the boards. Funny how when I do do it though, everyone's on my case... :/ Think I'll just go back to banning people - it's more fun.

And we've answered the questions umpteen times too. You wouldn't have been suspended for it, it would have been either for the fact that the actual swear word was not starred or was circumventing the swear filter, or pre-swear filter some sort of "dodgy" spelling to make it look like you're swearing without actually being flagged up.

The last few times I've asked it wasn't I thought. I was suspended for not fully starring the 'ing' a while ago and for a soft yet vulgar term for ladies private parts in reference to a politican - when others the same day were using the male equivlent with no action.

It just seems odd in application at times. I think it should all just be autofiltered it would save all the hassle.

I don't disagree with the filter, it's fair enough. But being told i have no need to be swearing when really it's just another day to day word is odd.

For me as I read the *******'s I naturally put the sweary back in without even thinking about it, Do other people do this ?

Until someone circumvents the filter or switches letters round etc... then we're called all the names under the sun when we act on it.

We have added two swearwords in the filter yesterday, if anyone finds any more, feel free to send me a message in trust. :)

However the use of a swear-word for emphasis is unnecessary, there are other words that would convey the hugeness of your cake without resort to profanity.

Use a thesaurus....;)

The swearing rules are fairly consistent.

The punishment, not so. I got a suspension for saying something the whole of Ireland and the BBC consider not to be a swear word, in a thread full of ****ing's and ****ed's that were completely ignored.

Most of it is autofiltered now but I don't think the admins have either the time, patience or inclination to try and guess every possible variation of swearwords to ensure that none of them slip through the net.

If you ever have an issue with a moderating decision, rather than moaning about it on the boards as to how rubbish we are, feel free to drop a mail, you'll more likely get a friendly response, and a definite answer to your question, and certainly would make me less inclined to ignore protestations that are publicly aired. :)
