I have a Sweex keyboard :)

I'm tempted by this, it seems very cheap for a good capacity player with a screen etc.

What is sound quality like compared with say an ipod? and what are the supplied phones like?

What's your personal opinion on this Yewen? I'm thinking about it.

Personally I think they are great, look a lot more expensive when you have them in your hand.

The menu is not quite to Apple standard but its easy to navigate and responsive.

The back is a silver colour and makes it look very similar to a first gen Ipod Nano which I would say the sound quality is on a par with. If I did not have a Gen2 Nano I would get one of these over it, the saving on price + me using mine in a loud area makes this superb value. Also no Itunes. :D

The headphones are not the best and the only real thing about the Sweex which suggests it does not cost £60-80. For the price it is on a par with what you would expect, invest in some £6 branded headphones and you will be laughing.

Superb buy for the money, from the amount we have sold it is fast on track to becoming our most popular MP3 player ever!

I bought my old dad a cheap nasty MP3 player maybe 18 months ago. Didn't want to spend much in case he didn't take to it.

He's taken to it, but he's frustrated because navigation is awful.

I was going to wait and get him an ipod. But I saw the price of these.

They look a bit too good to be true....

How easy is navigation? Could I set it up with folders and he'd be able to pick an artist/album as I would with a proper mp3 player?

Cheers Yewen, will be seriously considering one of these when I get some Christmas money :D

however is this true:
this is a very nice mp3 player very small and 8GB! only downside is the colour looks like windows 95 and u cant choose the songs u have to keep skippin until u find the right song but for the money its a snatch.

Ok I can report on these (8Gb version)

As long as you put your MP3s in folders you can browse albums although there is nothing like a sort by genre or artist function(as you would expect).

Sound quality seems pretty decent to me, I'm not sure I'd buy it for myself because it doesn't have user definable EQ but it does have about 5 or 6 presets, an SRS WoW function and a bass boost. I haven't tried the supplied headphones, I used my own because I was charging/testing it for my dad and wanted it to remain as new looking a possible.

The menu isn't the most intuitive but it certainly isn't difficult, I have a 4Gb Sumvision (for the car) which cost twice as much and is much worse to navigate.

The display does look tacky it has to be said but unless you stare at your MP3player while it's playing I don't see that as an issue.

Ok, this is the bad bit. I don't know if mine is fault but with the volume lower than 25 out of 30 I can hear what sounds like digital interference (like a spectrum loading) It's not picking up interference from my room because I've moved around with it and taken it outside to try. It makes a slight crackle when an MP3 file starts up and kind of fades the music in rather than jusat starts, Can someone at OcUK check to see if this is a fault or if they all do that (to be honest my dad's hearing isn't great and I doubt he'll work out how to adjust the volume anyway):D

I haven't tried any video, and to be honest, I never will.

I had a quick play around with the unit that arrived.

Does it support folders - YES.

Is it sleek, and a joy to use - NO.

Is the interface functional, bearable, and does it do the job - YES.

So in short buy a £100 MP3 player if you want something that's a joy to navigate. Buy the £30 MP3 player if you want an incredible bargain.

I wouldn't consider watching a video on it, so I won't even bother encoding anything for it.

But 8GB will hold 100 albums at a passable bitrate.

The software didn't work though. But that doesn't matter a crap. I can access it as I would a standard USB drive, and it's got a standard mini-USB port on it. Those two are a real bonus. It means if he's off in America then he can plug it in there too.

Can I just ask you if you get that digital spectrum loading sound at low volumes?

Hi... I bought a couple of months ago the 4BG sweex pearl and it sucks... Not only does it make funny sounds at volume below 25 but tha battery also lasts no longer than 3,5 hours with the lowest power consumption. I've had it changed under guarantee and the problems remain. I've mailed to the sweex company to get an answer for the battery and all I got was "I recommend you use screensavers"...duuu....

I was filling it up for my dad today, and I did notice funny noises. It's electrical interference, common on cheap devices. When the screensaver starts though they aren't anywhere near as pronounced.

I was listening to it on BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pros though, so I'm not sure if the noise would be heard on cheap buds.
