Hi all, I used to play swg before 'everything was ruined' updates and just come across this tonight.

Anyone played this or have any experience, is it any good/worth it? Needing something to fill in the gap before GW2.:D

Will that still work even after the game shuts down on the 15th or does it not have anything to do with it?

It's a separate project, run entirely privately. Just by a group of players trying to recreate the game that soe destroyed.

SWGEmu is one of those things that seems to get a lot of press every so often, but nobody seems to have tried. I'll have to see if I can dig out my original disks and give it a go.

They've certainly been at it for a long time at stage - population would make or break it though. SWG was only as good as the community.

I play it occasionally and it's quite good. Stable but the player base is quite small and some of the professions/features aren't active yet. Even with getting TOR, I'd imagine I'll spend a lot more time playing SWGEMU once CH is back up and running :)

However, it's worth install just to go to Tat, out to the Lars homested or Kenobi's hut, sitting down and watching the suns set while listening to the stirring music.

I ****ing hate you John Smedly you piece of filth, for what you did to that game.

Wrong, LucasArts caused it's downfall, they called a lot of the shots iirc.

wasnt there a planned starwars xbox but it got canned because lucas artis didnt think it was upto scratch? LOL
they should have applied the same logic to some of the starwars movies

But John Smedly is the main man of SOE and whether LA had sway on the direction of the game or not*, they're not the ones who sprung the NGE on players smack bang after an expansion without any warning whatsoever.

The man is a parasite for what he did to SWG and the lies he's spouted about EQ2.

*and I don't believe LA had much influence at all. They'll have had a say in regards to characters and lore (I.E. you can't kill Vader) and possibly had a veto on some aspects, but they'll have just sat back and picked up their percentage just like they're doing with TOR.

Its pretty good, but still missing a fair few things. The progress it was making has stalled the last year or so. They realised that the code they had reverse engineered was becoming a mess, so they decided to clean it all up. So the server you can play on now is as it was a year ago and they are not updating/fixing anything on it.
Once the rewrite of the code is done then they will carry on.

remember its very much in alpha and the server will be wiped once the code is done, but if you played pre cu/nge its well worth a play, its still great :)

Cool, well dug out my discs and installing the now. Maybe get n tomorrow, loved my master doc and tk, house on tat and a house on Naboo, throw in a land speeder and that's it perfection haha.

As for me getting TOR, looks good but I'm past the age of paying subscriptions and playing near on 12 hours a day... Marriage and buying a house put a stop to that a long time ago... Roll on GW2 haha this however should be good :)

The funny thing is, if the rolled back to pre-NGE they'd get a lot of subscriptions.. and the bull they give about losing the source code makes me laugh. From a business pov youd think they'd do it or at very least trial a server and see what happens. I know for 100% I'd go back to it!

While I'm hardly keen on the guy for what happened with Planetside under his watch, I have to disagree with your points there. From what I remember, the direction SWG went was because of LA's directions, not anything Sony wanted to do.

I used to pop on over to those websites a year or 2 back, to see if anything was happening, but nothing ever was. I remember one used to have a population graph for their servers, one used to get 1000+ concurrent users, which I thought was very impressive seeing as they appeared to wipe it completely quite often, I can't find that graph anymore.

The changes were entirely LAs doing, but people do feel rightly agrived the changes were kept secret until literally days before they hit, I remember they did some updates to a couple of classes, and then literally 2 days later removed those classes entirely, THAT was SOE's doing, lot's of people just can't get the trust back.

Wow just did 20mins as a brawler, the memories come flooding back. Exactly the same as the first day I played (including the lack of knowing what to do/menus/where to find stuff!)

Awsome just awsome!

Dont, you're making me nostalgic :(

Used to take me forever to zone, I remember spending about 30minutes following the tracking of a Jedi.. (through the ooc chat, not because I was a BH lol) just to see one! :D

I'm still mourning SWG.

I played the emu for a few minutes once and although it worked, it still relied on a lot of weird commands that I couldn't be bothered to get my head around.

If it works basically exactly like the original game now, without weird commands to do certain things then I'm there.

Dont remember it ever using commands (apart from the macro's, but that was in galaxies anyway).

In any case its pretty much just as the SOE version was, just with some stuff missing
