Hey all,

Currently I have a Q6600 B3 Stepping running at 3.0ghz cooled by a Tunic Tower 120. My idle temps are around 40-45c idle and 51-55c load. Tbh these seem pretty high for my liking so I've been considering Water Cooling. Reading reviews on the 120 Compact it seems not bad at all.

Is the block that comes with the kit alright? or should I change it to an Apogee GTX/D-Tek Fusion? would this get any better results?. And does anyone know what size the tubing is 1/2" or 3/4" I think the normal sizes are.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Cheers

51-55c under load for a B3 quad at 3ghz is pretty good (providing you're using CoreTemp, Everest or TAT to read the temps).

I was tempted from reading some reviews until one respected site was far from favourable - Anandtech.

They found that a number of the better air coolers performed better.

The consensus view from users isn't too favourable from what I've read.

If I had a Tuniq Tower I wouldn't dream of changing for one of these - you will probably find your temps go up.

The last guy that tried to sell one on Member's Market struggled to get £50 for it.

Thermochill PA120.1 Radiator - £45
D-Tek DB-1 Pump - £27
D-Tek FuZion CPU Block - £39
2m of Masterkleer 7/16ths Tubing - £8
T-piece - £2
Danger-Den Fillport - £9
2 drops of PetrasTech PT Nuke Anti-Fouling Liquid - £4
1l of Distilled Water - £1
Arctic Cooling 12025PWM 120mm Fan - £5

It is more expensive at almost £140, but it will give you lower temperatures at lower noise levels than the H20 kit. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, but you will be able to sell all the major components for roughly 70% of what you paid for them when you upgrade to a bigger pump and a bigger radiator.

Thing is like a lot of things, they get a bad rep, mines fine, and was a good intro for me into water cooling, since then I have gone the route the WJA advocates, and this week managed to survive a leak in a running system!
