Just going through the process of cleaning up all the water cooling gear i ordered.

Opened up the Swiftech MCW55 VGA block and the copper bit on the inside looks like it's been made by some GCSE student with a hack saw and 5 mins spare at the end of the lesson !

if i hadnt have checked there would have been tiny bits of copper floating around the system, i presume that wouldnt have done the pump any good!

What concerns me even more is it doesnt look like i can open the CPU block up to have a look inside

Not good. Not the first time I have heard that either. The terms, 'mass production' and 'low cost' come to mind.

tell me about it.

Very poor of swiftech, i'd have expected this kind of thing from a "cheaper" brand. I went for swiftech gear because i thought it would all be good quality.
Makes me wonder about the rest of the stuff!

Previous similar ones I've seen had some copper shavings that weren't cleaned out properly.

That one looks like the slit saw has slipped.

Definately sent it back, shoddy QC.

EDIT: what the hell is going on here, I posted in the wrong thread, but now it is right?!

Oh I give up!

SO yeah, I've never had any problems with Swiftech, just unlucky (what I put before I lost the plot).

Bl00dy typical, just my luck today! managed to blue screen our ISA box at work by touching a network lead. Were suffering from monster static at the mo :(

Bit narked off now

Wanted to RMA the block as it seems to be in a terrible state. you dont see ANY copper heatsinks with bits of copper bit hanging off or floating around, why should i accept that from a water block?

Overclockers won't even entertain the RMA, when i ask them if it's ok to file off the shards of copper, i can but i'll invalidate the warranty!

What next?!?!

What you do is quote s14(2) Sale of Goods Act 1979 and tell them it isn't fit for its purpose and/or not of satisfactory quality (I'm not sure if they still use merchantable quality as opposed to satisfactory quality - I remember we talked about this in class - may need to have a quick look at my notes).

EDIT: Yup, it did change to satisfactory quality from merchantable - I was looking at an unamended act online as I thought . Here is the updated one. Note s14(2B)(b) and (c).

You could contact Swiftech directly. The customer service is brilliant ! Sent me spare screws across from the states when i broke my others. They don't like it when retailers selling thier goods don't help out either,so the guy from Swiftech told me

Might be worth dropping them a mail with the pic.Sort of glad i never opened up my block now, although i've had no problems

Rob

I ended up emailing Swiftech with a picture and there response was more or less "tough Sh!t" it looks ok same as overclockers!!!

Soooo... the Dremel is out with a few light sanding disks & polishing bits :D

Time to Rock & Roll

So you've ignored the SoGA 1979?

but thats where your wrong, it is fit for use and there will be small, if any diff to a perfect one.
You have to understand almost every company will prioritise sales over quality these days.

Freedom from minor defects actually. We extensively covered this in commercial law and it would be covered, then again it's a matter of whether it is worth it. I also very much understand the whole company system but they still must comply with the law.

At the end of the day, if Swiftech want to knock out sh!te quality water blocks thats up to them! I won't be buying any more or recomeding them thats for sure.

I rember spending 60 quid on a Swiftech MCX462 many years ago, purely based on thier reputation for quality products. If they keep selling making and selling half finished products the reputation & sales will fall.

I have to admit Overclockers are in a bit of a sticky situation as thier just the reseller, but i do believe they should reconsider stocking Swiftech equipment if the quality continues to be this bad!

Now wheres the Dremmel gone...

a friend of mine had similar experience with a swiftech water block, similar to yours but the damage line was a fair bit wider, in some cases damaging 3 of the copper pillars, thats the reason when i get around to watercooling im planning on using alphacool, some good quality products from germany, where precision is like a religion

Very true. you can alway rely on the Germans for quality & percision...

thats why i've only ever bought beemers :D
