It really depends what your used to mate. I used to think swindon was the dogs danglies until going to uni in Bristol, i've now realised how small and pants most of it is!

There are absolutely tonnes of beefeater kinda places along with village style local's dotted around the outskirts, with a fair few trendy places in old town. You get the usual o'neills/McKenzie's etc. up there and walkabout/reflex etc. in the centre.

I remember those days :D

Yeah i know exactly what you mean.

Like currently the place i live (salisbury) is really small and pants and swindon is like the center of london to me with all those buildings and lots of exciting things to see and do. Its disney land to me! haha but yes i can understand that.

From what people have said swindon seems to be pretty much an ok place to live. For me personally the good things about the city will override any bad things or not so good things, Glass half full if you will.

Oooh im excited :D cant wait

W00t salisbury, don't suppose you randomnly know Jim Sprague. I just assume salisbury is one of those places where everyone knows everyone.

Oh, and Swindon is a town :p .

I used to think it was worthy of city status, but not now I've experienced a proper city.

I'm from Salisbury originally and I wouldn't say Swindon was my aspiration of a place to move to :)

A couple of my friends have moved to Bristol and that seems quite a happening town - although it does have some rough areas. Personally if I was looking to head out West to that kind of area I'd be thinking more Bristol/Bath/Cheltenham than Swindon.

Moving the other way down South there is Bournemouth which has some great nightlife, shopping and a beach! I'd say it's probably my favourite UK town for going out in that I've been to so far.

I personally don't like the town centre much, but guess it has most the shops you'd expect. The Greenbridge development is quite nice and so is the Orbital centre. Agree with the areas to avoid ;)

The Town center is Getting a Mahoosive Re-Development soon!... I saw the Models in the Brunel a couple of months ago!... Loads os Modern looking Shops and a Cinema... Sort of like a larger 'Reading Oracle'...

Looked good!, But it'll take ages to build!

Do they still have the "magic roundabout" there? For anyone that does'nt know, it's a junction made up of five (if i remember right) roundabouts. Sort of see a gap in the traffic and go for it (and pray).

Yup :D

So funny watching everyone try to go through one half of it and just skirting all the way round the edge missing it all.

Bloody thing! First time i came across it i ended up going completely the wrong way. I was based at Lyneham from 96-97. Loved the area and thought Swindon was quite good. Honda is a major employer there and was expanding even more back then. I believe they have announced a further expansion not long ago.

Yeah they sure do :) I went round it when i went to visit.... and round it... and round it and round it and round it... il figure that roundabout sometime! :D

Oh yeah, I'm learning to drive and that roundabout takes a lesson or two by itself. I don't like it at all, would try to avoid on any journeys myself.

Yeah, forgot the town is having it's re-development. They have got rid of a couple of hideous buildings but there are plenty more to go :D . Saw them demolishing that police station whilst my bus was stopped at town. They had this big hydraulic clamp on a crane they were using to pull it apart. It burst while I was watching, water sprayed everywhere!

I really dont see the problem with the magic roundabout! It works a treat, its just 5 roundabouts in a row for gods sake let people from the right go if not go yourself not hard is it!
