This one is unashamedly aimed at Kree.

I'm going to the Alps in summer with a small group and would like to do the Grimsel pass. Is it possible to get there and back in a day from Chamonix (where we are staying) or are we better off going for a different pass/passes?

More importantly, is it possible to do this without a Vignette as they're rather pricey just for a day?

Yes, there are normal roads that run along almost all of the motorways in Switzerland as motorways are pretty new here.

You go via the awesome Forclaz Pass in Martigny, then you just under 2 hours boring ride to 3 mountain passes in an amazing loop: Grimsel, Furka, Susten

That's about 8 hours with the motorway Chamonix-Chamonix, but I have no idea without it, maybe 10!

I'd get the vignette, and then go do Titicino via the Zermatt and the Centovalli on another day. That is spectacular, even compared to the other great mountain passes here!

Edit: If you were staying the night I would go Forclaz > Gurnigel > Interlaken > Grimsel, Furka, Susten loop > visit the glacier at Andermatt and sleep there (the pass up to the glacier is awesome).

Next day I would come back via Lugano > Centovalli > Zermatt > Grande Sainte Bernard Pass

Awesome. Thanks for that mate. Was thinking a trip to Zermatt would be a good idea for a short day out from Cham mid week. Will have a chat with the guys and see if they're up for the boring ride to get to Grimsel and will decide from there whether we get Vignettes.
£150 for 5 people for 1 day seems a bit much but we could ride back up to Calais via Switzerland I suppose. Assuming there's no tolls on the motorways with the vignette system?
