I have used my Meastro card to pay for a regular monthly service. Anyway I stop using the service months ago and canceled it with the company. Basically although I have confirmation the services have stopped they have kept my card details are started taking payments again. I have phoned them constantly and they don't seem to be able to stop doing it.

I phoned my bank who said I would have to cancel the card. Great no problem, I went through to cancellations to be told even if they cancel the card they will still allow payments to be taken from my account. Even if I close my bank account they will continue to pay this company and seek to recover the payments from me.

What the hell can I do? What they are basically saying is if you use your card with somebody twice they can carry on taking payments on your card and it will be considered authorised.

Anyone know what can I do?

if you don't get anywhere citizens advice will probably know what the laws are on this issue. It must be a violation of some law or other..

How much is the transaction for? Which bank is this with? That shouldn't be true, as a transaction attempted on a cancelled card would be a straight decline.

yeah it should be agree with that , go into the bank and get it closed while your there dont do it on the phone and get them to sign saying that the account is closed and no further payments would be removed / attempted if they sign it then dont worry about it if they do try to chase you up saying you owe us XXXX amount due to you didnt cancell just show them your proof of it

Not if it is a continuous card payment. You need to speak to your banks debit card services team, and tell them that the transaction is not auth'd by yourself, you no longer deal nor owe money to them, and that you demand they decline future payments.

You dont need legal advise or anything of the sort :)

EDIT: Who do you bank with?

Even if it's a "direct debit" type payment, if it comes off a card, it will require an authorisation code each time it is processed, and it shouldn't be given one if the card is flagged as cancelled.
