Is it possible to switch a computer on or off via remote control?

I have a htpc, under the tv, i have 19month old daughter who likes to go up to the pc and watch the light on the antec case go from white to off (ie turn off the pc)

the htpc is linked to 2 tv's , im in the kitchen using the tv as monitor, the htpc is in the living room.

any ideas?

I'd say an easier, quicker and cheaper option would just be to fashion some kind of cover for the power buttons.

Put some tape over the LED. She will soon get bored if there is no light to extinguish. I have two young kids and luckily I have a lockable door on the front of my PC. It's worth its weight in gold! Unfortunately they kept switching it off using the mains switch instead lol.

Yes, you need a remote receiver plugged into the USB though, and the USB slot to be configured for the +5VSB rail. Some boards have this option as a jumper though, some have it in the BIOS. And it may only be for certain ports.

The MCE remote can be set-up like this.

Can you not stick a IR reciever module from a old peice of hardware that had a remote onto your motherboard +/- PWR connectors?

Then use the remote control from the old device to turn it on/off and hide the remote control?

Might not be as simple as that, who knows :D

Check out the Antec Veris range. They will take up a front panel bay slot (unless you fancy a bit of modding) but you can wire them up so they can turn your PC on and off from remote.

PK!

Had a serious giggle to some of these comments, especially as I'm sitting next to a computer with the power button removed from my case door as a result of an over zealous 2yr old. Bloody kids eh?

BTW, don't knock the torch suggestion. My son loves his!
