Would we be able to switch our orders from 3080 to an amd card if stock arrives before my poxy strix rog oc 3080?
Just tired of waiting, just lost my job and have £880 tied up in a card I don't see me receiving this year lol

I'd imagine (and hope) you'd probably have to do a refund and purchase again.

Posting in the CS section may allow the refund to go as credit towards the AMD card to speed the process up.

Or get the refund as soon as the AMD dates are final - assuming you like the performance.

Worth a try, just don't tell everyone ;)

Unless you need a GPU for work I'd buy the bare minimum off the used market and save the rest to cover expenses until a new job is found.

Edit: This presumes you have sold your old GPU.

If you lost your job your best bet is to cancel and forget about a new GPU and not attempt to skip a queue to an unreleased GPU because you made a bad decision to hand over 880 without an eta.

This. yeah no nvidia users wouldn't like amd cards, or the drivers or something so stay in your nvidia queue. 10Gb should be loads of vram for all future games...
There are already example of 8GB cards the vram being the bigger bottleneck than GPU grunt at 4K losing as much as 40-50% of frame rate when vram runs out...it would only be a matter of time before the same happens to 10GB.

The way I see it 10GB 3080 would still be perfectly fine for gaming at 4K for may be the next 2 years or so until next gen release, but for anyone that plans on keeping the cards for 3-4 years gaming at 4K and don't really want to turn down graphic quality, then they should definitely wait for a card with more than 10GB vram.

You paid £880 for a RTX3080 that didn't exist :p

Mate, cancel your order and consider the bullet dodged. Buy the AMD card from a retailer that will sell it to you for MSRP and deliver it within 6 days not 6 months.

I don't know about your financial position but if I lost my job I wouldn't even be considering buying a new graphics card.

Stock situation and prices are crazy at the moment, leave until January until things have hopefully settled down and the supply issues have been sorted.

You'll be attacked for giving prudent financial advice. In my experience in the early stages of this depression we're in, the majority claim it's government's responsibility to fix their often reckless financial decisions for them, as "covid was no fault of their own".

The vast majority are expecting government handouts to continue and save them from their predicaments, whilst history shows us this will not be possible long term.

Rough times ahead for sure.

Some of theses replies cracked me up, I love this forum :p
With regards to the money spent and job etc, I'll be ok I won't starve or anything - Mrs has a cracking job and wants me to stay home and look after the dog anyway! :p:p

I'll have a butchers at the AMD presentation tomorrow and go from there with some objectivity moving forward :p:D
