Hi guys,
Bear with me on this, my comms knowledge is somewhat lacking.
I contacted my ISP regarding a new Router as I'm having big issues getting an open NAT on my Xbox One, previously such things as giving the Xbox a static IP and sticking it in the DMZ worked but this no longer does, I've exhausted all options to get an open NAT, it remains Strict.
My internet feeds comes via satellite, I live in the sticks and fibre isn't due until 2016, this is the best way of getting 20mb. It's actually very good, I don't think I've ever had down time. It's managed by a small company called Clannet, I contacted them about getting a new router as the TP-Link one I have is very basic and I think is the issue when trying to get the NAT sorted.
The gentleman who I liaise with quite a bit told me the easiest way would be to give him the static IP of the Xbox and that he would add it to their DMZ so it would be open and I'd never have NAT issues, however I needed to setup a switch before the Router. Be aware the real "router" is the satellite, a cables comes from there into the house into the TP Link via the WAN port.
He told me the cheapest way is to give the switch a static IP address (provided by him), plug the WAN cable into switch and then a cable from the switch to the TP Link router (for the wireless devices and for DHCP). Now he said a switch is a couple of quid but surely I need a manageable one to be able to give it a static IP or is there another way to input the IP, gateway, DNS that I'm not aware of? Manageable switches are expensive so presumably there is.
Does anyone see a fault in this setup? The LAN are 192.158.1 addresses.
EDIT:
This is what was sent me. I just don't understand the "switch before the router" part?! Do I just plug the switch in with no config?!

EDIT:
Hi,
If you are using a router as a switch then you need to disable the Dhcp server and not use its wan port plus you wil have no access to the device!! Its just a dumb switch!
alternatively use a switch before the router they are only a few quid!
Thanks
Nick
