Hey all,

Just got a new SSD in the mail and I'm currently backing up my exsisting files that are on my HDD that is connected in IDE mode. I was wondering, as I am going to be running my SSD in AHCI mode, would I be able to access the files on my HDD once I have windows installed on my SSD? Or will I need to wipe my HDD completely before switching to AHCI mode and installing Windows?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can, there may be some permission stuff but once you get through that you can pretty much access all your files on the HDD.

Okay, would it make things easier for me if I just backup my Music, Pictures and game saves and run boot and nuke on my HDD? As I'll probably end up deleting all the programs on my HDD then moving some onto the SSD.

Probably best to do that. Make sure you only have the SSD plugged in when installing Windows, so all the boot files stay on the SSD. Then once Windows is installed, plug in the HDD, then format it and move the documents, music, etc back onto it.
