Hey folks,

I'm helping out a friend with a network overhaul.

Previously they had a cheap Netgear wireless router with a single cable going to up to the third floor where a Netgear speed boster provided 2 ports and a second wireless network.

They have now bought an Apple Airport Extreme to replace the downstairs router.

I setup the Airport Extreme and the signal strength is excellent across the house, except for older laptops. They can't seem to connect at all. They can see it but the connection fails.

Ideally I'd like to get rid of the speed booster as it's faulty (network drops are ten to the dozen) so would I need a switch to restore those two ports upstairs?

If so, what really really cheap one would do?
