Switching back to IE8 - plugins?

I fancy a change and am moving from Firefox to IE8.

How do I know I am in "Protected Mode" (which is supposed to be secure right?)

I already know about setting up AdBlocker via the InPrivate Filter but wondered if anyone else had any good tips when using IE8.

Are there any decent plugins/(accelerators - are they called that?) for it? Specifically a dictionary for TextArea components when typing on forums for instance.

Along the bottom bar of the IE8 window it should say Internet | Protected Mode: On - this is the default mode but if you've turned UAC off you don't get it.

Can't really help you with accelerators as I don't have any and keep plugin down to a bare minimum.
