Switching between VR and triple monitors

Bit of an unusual request, I use triple monitors on my desk and use nv surround for gaming where supported on a GTX 980ti. This works great but last year I bought a vive and I'm lucky enough to (currently) have a spare room next door so have run a cable through the wall so my vive is in the next room for room scale vr. Because it's in the next room I've also put a single monitor in there (plus keyboard and mouse so I can control the PC and people can spectate). The 980ti actually has enough ports for me to connect everything (my 3 main monitors are DVi so I've got one plugged into DVi and the other two on DP to DVi adapters, the vive plugs into HDMI and I'm left with a final DP which the extra spectator monitor is plugged in to). If I run like this steam VR has a fit saying I need to disable display mirroring before using VR so I want an easy way to switch between the three monitors on my main desk and just the single monitor in the adjacent room. For the moment I've just been unplugging which ever screens I'm not using each time but I'm worried about wearing out the connectors on the graphics card. I did wonder if there was a way I could wire in a switch that would disconnect monitors but I've got no idea where you start with that, has anyone got any ideas or had experience with a similar setup? I don't mind if I have to re enable nv surround each time but I would like switching to be as quick and painless as possible

Are you using any active adapters or only passive? Could be due to limitation on how many passive outputs the GPU can handle?

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I can get all of the displays running simultaneously without any problems but I don't want that. I want to be able to turn off the triple monitor arrangement when I'm using VR and I want to be able to turn off the spectator monitor when I'm using my pc normally

I've not quite the same issue, in that i've triple screens for a racing seat / pedals etc and one Freesync monitor at a desk for normal gaming. Usual AMD driver flakeyness would constantly lose the config and shorcuts wouldnt work so i had i.e. one on and 3 off etc and vice versa.

In the end I just put the 3 monitors on a separate 4 way plug strip and simply just unplug that when not required, the AMD drivers then seem able to auto switch to which ever setup when they are plugged in or out.

Ooh!! That's a good idea, I never thought of that, I chould achieve my idea of having a switch but control power to monitors rather than trying to break the video connection, thanks :)
