Switching from BT to Sky

Nothing to do with the broadband but we think we can save on phone calls. Coupla questions.

I use my @btinternet.com main account all the time, signing in on Yahoo to access it. Will I still be able to retain this as well as any additional sky addresses?

I have a wireless d-link router but it keeps dropping it's connection even though it claims it hasn't. Do Sky provide a wireless router because I have a BT one I bought a while back I was going to swap to. Would that work ok with Sky?

Sky reckon I could get 2MB where I am, which I think is optimistic considering I only get 1MB with BT atm. Do they know something I don't?

Last and by no means least, is Sky any good?

Friend recently with bt using bt yahoo dial up account was told it would become dead if they left BT to get O2 boradband. ISP's seem to be quite variable on retaining emaila accounts.

Hi, we made the switch from BT phone service’s we had every option going to Sky TV + sky Talk and we still saved money all round. In the process of getting Sky Broadband (Max Package 16MB) as my BT contract runs out this month HOORAH on that alone we save £20. Just received a letter from Sky saying my broadband get’s activated on the 16th of this month we just applied last week. Yes you can access your non Sky e-mail accounts by using Mail Fetcher in Sky e-mail options, Sky do provide a wireless router.

BT phone + broadband was £66(month) calls on top.

Break down of my Sky package – Sky TV = £27/Sky Talk = £5 + calls (call rate is cheaper than BT) A MONTH = £32

As from this month Sky package - Sky TV = £27/Sky Talk = £5 + calls (call rate is cheaper than BT)/Sky MAX 16MB = £10 now = £42 a month.

PS - Laughing all the way to the bank.

My advice nowadays is to use a non ISP specific email such as Hotmail or Googlemail, both offer POP3 access and you can use it to send and receive from your phone too with no silly settings outgoing.

Sky as a provider is very good for the money as long as you have Sky TV. To answer the router question, yes you get one as part of the package preconfigured.

We've just got Sky, took a while to set up as I had to manually add each MAC address to the router settings which was a PITA, other than that it seems ok.
We're having a few issues now with our phones producing a crackling noise which could be down to the channel that the router is operating on, seems to be a weird problem!

Normally you dont need to add MAC addresses unless your using MAC address filtering. It should, plug in and go via ethernet and connect to wireless network and just be a case of entering the key.
