Evening all.

I really want to switch to PC gaming due to finding myself more and more into RPGs, survival, simulator and that kinda stuff, and there seems to be a much bigger catalogue of those types of games for PC. I’ll still be playing Call of duty, Battlefield and those kinda games but I feel switching to pc will allow me to get the best of both worlds. Obviously the better specs of a PC is also appealing as well.

I’ve had a quick browse of the forum and found some good links that I will get round to reading/watching but I have some questions I need a more immediate answer to, so here goes.

1. I want a PC that won’t limit what games I can play. I see a lot of people saying things like, “you’ll want a superfast gigathing 34vxi and maybe a
vibranium G-force thruster pack to run that game properly”. So, do I have to spend £1000s just to play all the AAA games I want?

2. How much should I be expecting to spend on a pc that doesn’t really limit the games I can play, DIY and pre built? I’m fairly sure I won’t need the absolute best machine, but on the other hand I don’t want an average/mediocre one either.

3. How on earth do I start to get my nut around all the different names of components, brands, abbreviations etc etc.

4. Is it worth it? I’ve literally never played a game on a pc so I can’t compare it to console.

I appreciate it’s a lengthy first post, so Thanks to anyone who can give me any help.

Welcome aboard.

Do you have any accessories like keyboard/mouse to use, or do you need also those included?
What about monitor/TV?
Well, I assume you have some kind PC there...
Which might possibly give also part or two to reuse in case of DIY.
Though some market PC is highly unlikely to have anything worth of reusing.

Single most expensive part of gaming PC is graphics card and resolution affects lot to requirements for it.
(really old low end 1920x1080 doesn't need much)
Unfortunately at the moment you won't be getting anything future proof no matter the price, so best to stay in good performance to price ratio models unless having more money than knowing what to do with.

I’ve got nothing but an old Hp monitor I use with my PS4. Why will I not be able to future proof anything? Is there a lot of new hardware expected in the near future or something like that? Thanks.

None of the current graphics cards are really capable to one of the main new techs of next-gen consoles: Raytracing.
Unless you count 30-50% performance crash as capable...
(that makes vey expensive cards give low mainstream framerates)

Though assume that monitor is 1920x1080, which is in general low on demands.

CPU wise situation is again quite good with very good CPUs at reasonable price and AMD even giving proper upgrade path.

you dont have to spend big or aim high to better a console, both the xbox one and ps4 are APU run devices which are sometimes adequate for the games at hand, but with £1000 you can still get a really nice system though.

im sure people will make better mock ups, but heres an idea of a DIY build

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £915.97 (includes shipping: £13.20)

and heres a couple pre-built

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,010.90 (includes shipping: £23.10)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £956.85 (includes shipping: £23.10)
