Who's done this?

Im so tempted by Sky atlantic i just can't resist :D

Im just not sure on the notice i have to give Virgin... I don't want to be without Internet so im not sure whether to wait for everything to be installed, and then give notice, or just give notice tomorrow and hope that they don't cut me off until Sky is installed?

It's a good thing im on freesat from Sky. Plus freeview in bedroom. Cant justify to pay for extra channels.

Its not solely for Atlantic, but its one of the reasons.

I can get the same package as im on now, plus Sky Sports for less than what im already paying on Virgin. No brainer really...

If you're switching internet too don't forget that virgin runs on fibre, sky is adsl, you will need to pay line rental to BT and it won't be nearly as responsive as fibre and your pings will likely double, also peak times of the day tend to slow down a lot on adsl

Sorry but what a croque of s***.
As long as you are on the LLU based Sky broadband then generally all is well.

Please get your facts right before incorrectly advising someone.

1- You dont have to have you Line Rental with BT, there are a number of providers including Sky that offer Line Rental.

2- Fibre does not significantly reduce ping times as just like ADSL latency is based on number of hops and distance to the packets location not the phyiscal medium on which the data travels upon.

3- I have no idea about this 'responsive' thing you talk about

4- Unlike Virgin, Sky do-not operate a traffic shaping policy on LLU during peak times and are the only 'truly' unlimited service out there currently in the price bracket.

I'm also not saying that Sky are perfect either. The connect option they offer for non LLU customers is gash, you have to factor in the cost of a TV package as well and the routers they supply for free are not great by any stretch.

What mancubus said is fully and wholly correct. Sky LLU is great. Sky Connect is garbage and should be avoided like the plague.

I should add my DG834GT Router Sky gave me is great and I'm very happy with it's performance. newer Routers aren't that much cop though.

generally you'll be giving Virgin 30 days notice so you can easily overlap your Sky BB going active and your Virgin Bb stopping, but I'd really get a speed check first as if you're miles away from the exchange no amount of praying or tweaking will change the laws of Physics and you may end up with a slowish connection.

Well i actually spoke to a sales guy in my town centre today who checked my address and told me i can definitely get up to 20mb.

Do i need to give Virgin notice from when i next pay? As i payed 10 days ago, so if i give notice now ill have to pay again at the end of this month anyway, wont i?

They all say you can get UP TO some high number, does n't mean you will!

Well, after some googling i've found out that you don't actually NEED a Bt/Sky phone line. So tomorrow ill be cancelling that and just sticking with the SKY TV package and Virgin phone/BB.

Anyone else using this setup?

Last I saw was that Virgin's picture quality looks like crude compared to Sky.. this was going back a few years though.

I would be asking myself if this has changed at all recently?

I'd say if you have sky sports on virgin and are considering switching then do.
Virgin get bugger all features and less channels than skys sports package for similar money.

Swapping for one channel? Are you mad?

The shows are mostly poo, and the shows on there are close to being axed already in America.

I don't understand the hype of this channel, use your super fast virgin internet! ;)
