Hey,

Just switched my broadband from a wonderful 1mb fixed speed connection on Talk Talk (formerly Tiscali) to Sky 20mb Unlimited and was told at first that I would require a MAC code to switch.

So, I got the MAC code from TalkTalk/Tiscali & gave Sky a call where I was then told that because I had a "certain type of line" that meant a MAC code wasn't required to switch?

Is this correct? :p

It depends what they mean by "certain type of line". The only time you wouldn't need a MAC to switch the ADSL service would be if you were coming from and/or going to full LLU (i.e. moving the voice service too).
If you were on Talk Talk's LLU service it's common for them to grab the voice service too which would mean a return to donor, activation fees and fairly significant downtime but no MAC would be needed (because you'd start with no ADSL).

Ahh ok, at the moment I don't think it's LLU, so I'm switching directly to LLU with Sky which explains why there's no need for a MAC code.

Thanks very much for the reply, just wanted to make sure everything was correct. :)

You'd only not need a MAC key if they're moving the voice service to their LLU operation as well (which IIRC Sky don't do).

At last count the voice service was by Carrier Preselection (i.e. they were paying BT on your behalf) though. There's a considerably difference between that and the voice service being handled by Sky's equipment.

Oh... :p Not sure what to do then, the Sky peoples said that there was no need for a MAC code, so what would you suggest? :)

Thanks again.
