Switching Phone and BB provider

Hi All. Thinking of switching from BT to Sky, would be switching phone and BB but concerned there may be downtime.
Obviously I expect to be cutoff at some point on transition day and that could last most of the day. I am more concerned that we could end up cut off for more than one day. Other half works from home quite regularly so easy to work around one day but concerned if process isn't completely smooth it could end up causing bigger issues.

Sky claim they can handle the whole process and takes a few weeks.

Has anyone done this and how did it go?
Did BT manage to dream up any charges to hit you with?

(Should be well outside any inital period charges as we have been with BT for about 2.5 years)

I moved from a Talk Talk line back to a BT one about a year ago, although ADSL24 ran the show

You get a move date, ADSL went down for about an hour, never noticed any outage on the phone line at all really.
If memory serves you need at least 14 days notice, so from when you apply it will be at least 2 weeks until your switch date

Just remember or make sure the wife knows how to change your Router adsl login username and password on the day or youll be switched over but unable to connect

Also had an activation when we first moved in that all went to plan on the day given to me by email so i think they are pretty good with this

Would be using the new Sky supplied router anyway, so would be a matter of unplugging BT homehub before going to work, and plugging new Sky one in when I get home. Hopefully it would all happen during normal working hours.

Sky are an ok ISP make sure you turn off the wps feature on the router when you get it though, it makes you much more susceptible to wpa cracking attacks

I just switched from BT to Sky in order to stop them charging me the £5 monthly charge for having their BB but not their line rental.

I asked them to do it, they gave me a date and the changeover happened without me noticing. Obviously I wasn't transferring my BB as it was already with them but I did move to FTTC which took a week longer, but only because it required an engineer visit and that was a suitable day for me.

If you get a migration code form your current supplier then transferring BB should be fairly straight forward.
