Switching to sound card from inbuilt.. but will sound go through GTX770 HDMI still?

Basically want a soundcard as I want DDL and Dolby Headphone etc.

Possibly will be a Xonar D1 or DX.

However.... will the sound still get routed through the HDMI if I want it to, like the inbuilt sound does?

Mobo is a Gigabyte GA Z77 D3H if thats of any help.

I think so, but to get the sound quality off the sound card you disable or delete the audio drivers from nvidia and use your soundcard drivers

You can still get sound from your graphics card HDMI but i have no idea if it passes through your sound card.

I have a sound card and an nvidia GPU (GTX 680) is there anyway i can test this for you? im not sure how to prove the sound is coming from my sound card then going to my GPU.

Modern graphics cards have their own audio processors on board so when you select the source for HDMI output it's actually the graphics card that's producing the audio.
