I used to stay in Switzerland a lot. I soon found out that staying near a boarder, the French side for me, made it easy to do some cheaper shopping
Wise advice depending on where you’re visiting. When I go back to visit my family in Lugano I always stay across the border in Italy. Last time it was £90 a night vs £300 a night and yet only an easy and scenic 20 minute drive away. Restaurants on the same lake but opposite sides are half the price too (border cuts through the lake). Swiss always used to go across to Italy for a lot of shopping and Italians go across to Switzerland for petrol which was bizarrely cheaper.
