Just booted up today and my symantec anti virus will not allow me to enable auto-protect there is a cross over the tray icon and when I click enable it enables for 5 seconds then the cross appears and is disabled again.

Any ideas how I can sort this problem out?

Thanks

What version of the client are you using?

We had an issue with 10.1.5.5000 (I think) where the Symantec Antivirus service would not start automatically with the local system account (therefore disabling the autoprotect feature), although it would start fine with a domain service account...

This was resolved with an updated version of the client (10.1.6.6000).

v10 sucks big time, way bloated and does stuff you just don't need in a properly setup rig.

IMHO the best version by far is Symantec AntiVirus Corporate.v9.0.2.1000 Final
At the end of the day they all use the same defs so for me it's the one that does the job using the least amount of clock cycles.

The best symantec AV product is norton AV 2002, no rubbish, just a working AV, tbh from 2004 or or was it 2005 it started being carp, just slowed the pc down so much...

NOD32 all the way, tbh I think you're even better off with the free avg than with norton.

last time symantec did that to me, the non auto protect thingy, there was a virus on my pc which borked the antivirus program. using nod32 now and its much better.
