I have 2 Windows 7 PCs - a desktop and laptop.
What is the quickest easiest way to keep some folders synchronised?
It will usually be desktop to laptop rather than both ways.

ms synctoy 2.0 should do the trick and its free although some are reporting some issues with large folders

I tried dropbox to accomplish this task a while back but discovered that it makes 1 single folder which is then synched. If you use Windows Live Sync. It allows you to specify several folders and sync those. It's very easy to use and manage. Install the client program on each pc or mac you wish to use with Windows Live Sync and then use the WLS website to configure your folders and what systems you wish them to sync with.

I use it all the time to sync folders between my desktop and netbook. It's just works a treat. Love it!

uploading all the files to the internet and then downloading them again? how bizarre.

i'd just map a drive and use a standard file sync app like robocopy/synctoy etc.

I like the sound of this windows live sync

If the uk had decent upload speeds, I'd use this as a live backup for my music

been using Windows Live Sync for a year or 2 now, since its first beta. Great piece of kit, so simple touse. I have it syncing docs etc across 4 PCs.

Do you need windows live logins to use it?

Or can I use one login on multiple pc's?
Can my mum use her login to view my things too?

Live sync is linked to your windows live login although you can set folders to be viewed by others etc if you wanted.

Yeh, you must have a windows live account but you can specify which folders are private and which can be seen by others ie public

Ok.

Does it store things online? or can you only view folders when the PC is on?

IE, what happens if I share a folder with 60gb in it?

Thanks for answering my questions

Currently I use hamachi & windows networking

from what i remember, it does not store anything of yours online. I think thats the difference between live sync and live mesh.

It's deffo worth trying as It's a fantastic service and invaluable for myself

Thanks everyone.
I will have a look at the options.
The total folder size is 150Gb so might leave the Live Sync if it syncs across internet!
Synctoy, just downloaded, looks like it will do the job but will check out the others too.

Instead of SyncToy, try Synkron. It has synching options in it and I use it for backing up all my desktops data to an external drive
