Hey folks,

Trying to sync files from a laptop to a server;

say for example the user is called 'Joe'

Joe's laptop > My documents

Server (lets say it was) 191.191.21.21/Joe

I right clicked and changed the path of the my documents folder on the desktop from C:\documents etc, to 191.191.21.21\Joe

I then enabled offline files etc, and the my documents has the arrows on it to show it is synced files...
Inside the folder *most* of the files have those arrows on them as well, some dont for some reason!

However, this is the problem;

When navigating to c:\documentsandsettings\Joe\mydocuments there is only 10 files in there! There should be loads more!

Obviously on the desktop the shortcut points to the server folder so they are there OK.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance

That's because you've redirected it :p

After you've redirected you either see a combination of the online files on your server and your offline cache, or just the offline cache if you're not connected to the network. In either case that folder is now irrelevant, just files on a disk.

Yeah as Otacon says, c:\documentsandsettings\Joe\mydocuments is no longer the location of your "My Documents". The location is on the server. Any synced files will be in the synchronized files folder.

See what i mean, you have done it again! Are you sure you're not me? My alter-ego perhaps...

So do you mean, to not use that documents and settings folder anymore?

If he is disconnected from the network, the files will show up, and when he reconnects they will sync and update with the network files in my documents on the server?

In otherwords, have I done it right lol!

PS > It is taking AGES to sync! lol

Should do yes. By default your My Documents shortcut (which is basically all it is) points to that folder - just because you point it somewhere else doesn't mean it gets deleted, and it certainly wont keep putting files there :)

For all that is good test the sync thing though. And beware, that thing gets it knickers in a a twist quite easily. Twice in recent history have I heard of a user losing data because of it.

Basically as Otocon has said.

If you've redirected it then you don't need to synchronise it (unless you want it then made available offline - do you really need this feature? If you're using a LAN and a PC then generally the answer is no).

I can't stress how important it is to test this feature and understand what you are doing before you overcomplicate things - it really is easy to setup.
