Syncing a full iPod to a new, empty iTunes.

As title really, I currently have an iPod full with music, I have recently re-formatted/installed my OS and therefore iTunes is bare with no music or anything at all. If I were to sync up my iPod, would it remove all the music?

If so, how do I get the music off the iPod and into my computer/iTunes safely?

Yes.

Use third party software to rip the music off the iPod.

yeah, that happened to me so i used SharePod, you don't even need to install it and its so simple, you can sync and remove off the ipod without itunes getting anywhere near, and when you need itunes again all the songs you put on using SharePod just appear, you don't need to delete it all

I've always used YamiPod. Works fine on my Mac, quite simple to use, free as well.
