I am having some trouble with setting up my Synology DS218 in the way that I am imagining - however, I'm not sure whether it is possible or whether I need to do it in a different way!
The NAS is set up on my home network (dynamic IP accessed remotely via QuickConnect). I have set up a new user to act as a server for storing work documents and want this to be accessible from my work PCs - however, I also need it password-protected so only certain staff members can access the files.
The work computers are set up with just single user accounts that all staff use. If I connect with Synology Drive, which I have found is the easiest way to work, this means the files are available to access on the work PC by that user (i.e. all staff). Is there a way that Drive requires a login to gain access to the files without local storage, or is the only way to set up unique user accounts on the local PCs?
I have looked into logging into the Synology NAS directly via the browser but to work on the files requires downloading them then re-uploading - too complex for the less technically able staff! Drive is ideal as it works along the same workflow as Windows Explorer, but it is just the security issue of access that is the problem.
Hopefully this makes sense, thanks for any help!
