Hi all, I just got a Seagate Iron wolf pro hard drive for my Synology and although it passes all smart tests and Seagate seatools tests in the Synology smart info it has a high rate of raw_error_rate and seek_error-rate.

No other errors such as bad sectors or sector reallocations etc.

I think there is an issue with Seagate smart not being read correctly, can anyone confirm?

After some investigation I found it not to be an issue. Seagate drives report high figures in three area’s on the smart data. I put a spare Seagate EXOS drive into the NAS and it reported the same issue.

It was a choice between a WD red plus 12TB drive at £320 or a Seagate Iron Wolf pro 12tb with an extra 2yr warranty and 2yr data recovery for £345, so a no brainer.

Where did you get that from for that price!! I found the normal 12tb for £320 with 3 year data recovery but not the pro version, that one I am seeing at £390 the lowest from a place I've never heard of so probably price.

edit...found it for £341

It’s a great price when compared with the basic WD Red which only comes with 3yr warranty. The Iron Wolf Pro is an enterprise class drive with 5yr warranty and 2yr data recovery plan. WD need to revise their prices!
