Sorry for another one of these posts, but have been out of the game for a while (still using an Athlon XP
) and i'm currently piecing together a spec for a new system. I'm not a huge gamer, but do play a bit of CS1.6/Source games and Battlefield 2142 (but wouldn't mind playing COD4 either) every so often. But most importantly is that it's future proof for a few years (so overclocking will be on the cards at some point and water cooling) and will be able to deal with video and music editing (using Protools/Digidesign Hardware) - so need it be pretty quiet. Budget is around £500-600 (exc case)
Currently on the list is -
Q6600 G0
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme + Noctua NF-S12 1200RPM Fan
Abit IP35 Pro XE
2 x Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 (2x1GB)
BFG GeForce 8800 GT (1950MHz version)
Corsair TX 650W
2 x Seagate 7200.10 80GB SATA (Raid 0 for OS/Apps) + 1TB of drives from my current system.
Case - Either Lian Li PC-7B or PC-60B, or if the cash is spare V1010B
I've read a load of reviews on bits, but i have a few questions - Is there much difference between the IP35 Pro and IP35 Pro XE apart from 1600 FSB (as i've yet to find any Pro XE reviews)? Is it worth the extra for the 1950MHz version of the BFG over the 1800MHz version (i've heard of a few heat issues with the 1950MHz)? Also, is it worth paying for the Noctua fan or could i go cheaper? Any other problems i may encounter?
Any advice/help will be muchly appreciated!
