sorry found out it is poss. tomshardware article stated only the 965 extreme edition at $1000 was only overclockable, with intel setting restrictions on lesser i7 CPUs. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Intel-Core-i7-Nehalem,review-31404-37.html

now seen this http://www.custompc.co.uk/handsonguides/2994/core-i7-overclocking.html .. still, the multiplier cant be changed.

The i7 920 will do 4ghz, providing you have decent parts.

This situation is no different to Core 2 Duo; only the EE chips have unlocked multis.

I think someone needs to do more research before posting

Also as a general rule take anything said on tomshardware with a pinch of salt.

If Intel had produced non overclockable chips then they'd have thrown away a good part of the market dominance.
