Have been given the task by one of the bosses at work to spec him a system upgrade for his boy for Xmas. Budget is around £400 (Think I can push him to the £450 I've specced), the pc is to be for general use and gaming.

He has an existing PC which can be 'broken' so have decided to use the hard disk and DVD+R (both IDE) from this. Unfortunately the case will only fit a Micro ATX card so think a new case is in order.

The bits I've picked out are listed below for comment. One of the things I was wondering was on the graphics front... are the 8800GT better than the ati HD cards?

Will probably try and OC a bit higher if the temps allow, should this be able to go 3ghz with the stock cooler and this case without any issues? (I'll be adding an inlet fan over the processor)

Come on guys, comments please... I don't want to dissapoint an excited 12 year old! (Which then leads to me getting in the ear at work...)

Even if it's just wishing a merry Xmas :D

Sounds like a good build for the money, but to save pennies I would downgrade the PSU (seems a bit overkill for this) and maybe going for a Radeon 3850 to save another £30 or so.

Merry Xmas :p

an 8800GT for a twelve year old?

also, £450 for a christmas present for a 12 year old :|

jesus.

also, welcome to OCUK.

claimed.

Welcome to the forums. It depends on how big a monitor there is whether this upgrade to the graphics card will be worth it possibly but it does get you closer to your budget and the CPU should be good for a fairly easy 3ghz. :)

Thanks for your help guys!
