I've been looking at some of the Intel systems and I'm unable to figure out what's best...

System 1 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...y-VsCGy-WsCHy.-sCJy-.sDay/UsDby@wsDcy@zsDGyuV

System 2 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...yUZsEKyV2sELyV6sEMyV9sENyV'sEOyV$sEPyV_sFayVw

System 3 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...y-;sCKy-wsCOy/zsCPy@)sCQy@$sDhy:'sDFyuutlfzu1

Obviously, System 1 has DDR4 RAM, cmpared to the others with DDR3, but how much difference would that make?

Oddly, 2 and 3 are near identical, with 3 (an ATX rig) being a bit cheaper :/

Soo many damn choices, I simply cannot decide on a new machine!

As you say h1 and h2 are virtually identical the Kinetic Z1 gives you a z board with ddr4 .

There is not a great diffrence in speed between ddr3 and ddr4 so as you want to keep your budget down either h1 or h2 whichever you like.

I'm struggling on selecting a GPU. Whats better (on paper or in the real world) the GTX 970 or a R9 380(X)? The numbers look similar, but the 380 has a better price point.

Gtx 970 is comparable to 390, gtx 960 is simallar to 380 both the amd cards are slightly faster than the nvidia cards but use more power.

What do you think is the lowest grade card I should go for, to pair with the i3and 16gb RAM?

Get the best card you can afford, a gtx 970 would be a good choice as it will max out 1080p with very high settings at low power.

The 4gb 960 or 380 will handle 1080p as well but not with the highest of settings like the above.

Is it worth going down the 1151/DDR4 route and get an i3 6100 now, allowing me to get an i5/i7 in the future?

Or will an i5 4690(K) with DDR3 be sufficient bang for buck for the next few years?

Going for Kaveri 3870k with extra GPU is a bit waste of cash (the main strength of this CPU, or rather APU, is that it has fairly good inbuilt GPU into it). If you're already spending a lot of cash on GPU then going for something like fx6 6350 should give you better bang for your buck.

As for the 2nd part of the question - it depends on the games.
If you're into MOBAs/Strategies/RPGs/ older MMOs and some driving games (DIRT / Starcraft / HOTs /LoL) then even the inbuilt GPU should handle them easily.

If you're talking about unoptimized newest benchmark games like witcher 3 or *insert newest badly optimized FPS ps4 port* then you might need to look at spending at least £170-200 on a gpu (380/960/970) depending on amount of detail you like in your games.

Hmm, sadly none of the AMD systems let you choose an FX chip :/

As for games, it's stuff like TF2, Rocket League, Elite Dangerous, BF4, CS:GO

EDIT Found the FX chip systems. How does this look?

Looks like a very nice system for the price :-).

Absolutely nothing to fault.

I'd be tempted to ask for a bit better motherboard but if you're not planning to do a lot of OCing or upgrading (better CPU, more GPUs, pcie ssd etc) in the future then there isn't much point.

Also, it's not on the list but you could probably ring up and ask if they can use the HIS 380X which is only £10 more expensive but considerably quicker.

Is there room for mild OCing? And is this gonna give me 1080p 60fps performance? How future proof is this system? In terms of improved CPU and single GPU?

I haven't had a play myself with one of those but I see no problem why mild OC wouldn't be possible, although, I wouldn't expect too much out of it. After all, it's only an entry motherboard - good quality at that, but still basic.

Gaming wise, you should be fine with that GPU :).

Overall for the price, it's a really good system and should serve you for a while :).
