system crashed big time !!! :(

Have you checked the motherboard for any signs of damage? blown caps etc? I would normally just say this is what happens when you don't do proper stability testing (unstable systems are bound to crash eventually) but the noise you describe sounds a bit strange. If you don't have an internal PC speaker (old school!) then I'd suspect the PSU would be the prime source of a noise like that?

Did the noise appear after the crash? or before?

Havent checked the board for any damage mate as its a pain in my knees etc to get down there and have a look etc, lol, got kinda knackered knees man, lol :( , takes me all my time to clean the filters every now and again, lol.

There is no speaker in the base unit at all.

And the sound occurred instantly at the point of the crash, and it kept on buzzing away and a frozen screen until I switched it off using the off button on the base unit too, don't know if that helps ya any ?;)

Do you have any mechnical hard drives or just the SSD? I'd just ignore the sound and try to get your stable (Prime95) and see if the noise happens again, the fact that your system still works is a good sign.

yes, couple of mechanical drives in there too but the OP system is on the SSD, the other drives are just for backing things onto, that's all, I think I have heard the kinda Grinding noise that can sometimes come from a failing mechanical drive, but this noise was nothing like that, it was more like a loud buzzing noise as is something had seized up or something like that, I dunno, its a strange one.

But yea, I am doing as you said, I have got it stable again by doing the small tweak mentioned a few posts back and I intend to leave it alone again as I am not in the habit very much of messing about with things anyway when they appear to be ok, lol, cheers for the input mate :);)
