Error - "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I've got a i7 system, with 3Gb RAM and Geforce 275 - system is great, except I am getting frequent crashes when playing games - seems to be the error shown above, and I have tried all sorts to resolve it. Can anyone help?

thanks,

Carrot

Make sure the GPU temps are in check, downgrade the drivers back 5 versions or so, underclock the core and the shaders, give it -slightly- more juice and see if it still crashes.

Hi Ordokai,

Thanks for the advice, any suggestions where I can get the older drivers?

thanks,

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk <<< Nvidia driver archive

Select the appropriate card and OS, try to grab something around a year or so old. We are going for ultimate stability here, trying to isolate as many factors as possible.

Note : before installing the old drivers make sure the current ones are all gone, remove them properly and restart the PC

The 'nv' directly links to the graphics card. I'd uninstall any drivers you may have for any graphics card, and try installing the latest :)

I kind of assumed the 'nv' part was obvious and neglected to mention it, but yeah of course, before going through the motions I suggested he should try the latest ones and see if that works.

which version drivers are you using?

Never owned an nvidia card so.... none of those :p if they work without a hitch, conventionally using the latest ones is best.

The whole 'downgrade' idea is there to make sure the issue isn't driver related. Sometimes newer revisions leave older gen cards in the dust and cause unexpected issues.

Thanks both.

The issue reared its ugly head recently - about a week ago - so I upgraded the drivers to the latest and it continued.

I'll try removing all display drivers and re-installing the latest, and let you know.

thanks,
