Hi guys and girls,

maybe i'm being a bit cheeky, maybe i'm giving someone a challenge!

I'm after creating a system for about £400 without monitor or pheriperals (sp?).

TBH the mobo's and cpu's are confusing me big time. I want a system that will be able to play moderate games e.g. battle for middle earth/civilisation, nothing spectacular. I want the console to be slightly future proof so that it can handle vista (new windows) and more ram etc to be added.

am i being cheeky or giving you a challenge? :D

I did have the following earmarked:
Motherboard - Asus P5LD2-VM Intel 945G Micro ATX (LGA775) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-110-AS) (this was my main concern, as far as motherboards go - i aint got a clue!)

Processor - Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz (533FSB) - Retail (CP-116-IN)£72.95:

Ram - Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Ballistix Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT6464AA663) (MY-035-CR)

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-046-WD)

Dvd drive LG GSA-H10ABRL 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - Retail (CD-036-LG)

Asus TA-210 Series Midi Tower Asus TA-5A1 Series Midi Tower (Black) - 350W PSU (CA-011-AS)

Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler (which one? I've heard zalman are good)

Asus ATI Radeon EAX-X1600 Pro-TD 256MB DDR2 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-094-AS)

HELP

I like the look of the ASUS case there as well, but have been told its not so good in the PSU and thermal areas...

I would not get this memory i have seen to many bad things said about these on this board.

thanx for the replies guys.

what would be your advice about the motherboard and memory and case lol

everything else look ok?

you don;t need pc5300 for a budget 805. get 3200 would be more than enough and thats if you are ocing
also get a artic 7 pro which is slightly cheaper and better.,

that should save you about 10 quid..

im interested in doing this too. whats the cheapest board i can get for the 805d??

need to build up a pc for a client. pc is just for office based work like web, mail, office, msn sort of stuff.

i know single core is more than sufficient but if i can get dual core for cheapo then the systems response will be quicker??

only games to ever be played will be solitair and minesweeper so integrated graphics would be good.

what do you guys recommend?

I have a AMD Athon 3800X2 and 2GB Ram and it runs FM06 like lightning.

how much did your system set you back?

can anyone recommend a good system for £400? I like the idea of 2gb ram though lol
