Here it goes..
flashed the bios of a sapphire PI motherboard, went ok, reset the CMOS, that was good, changed my hdd boot order (to boot from sATA, I have an IDE drive too that it defaults to) and restarted.
HOWEVER
Just after the POST, when the message "verifying DMI pool data" comes up, the system hangs. I dont think its a problem with the DMI data, just an instruction after it, but seeing as i have no idea what happens then, I cant determine where the problem is. Twice it got as far as XP, then hanged, which gives me some hope.
Also, even with hdd boot completly disabled and booting a system disc from floppy or xp cd (for bios flash or fdisk) , it still hangs around 14/15 times.
Tried reflashing the bios with a new downloaded file - no effect. Tried writing a new boot sector with recovery console (when the system stayed stable long enough to load it that is) - no effect. Tried writing a new MBR with recovery console - no effect.
I don't know whats wrong with my poor system!! Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new mobo/proc, but I'm poor and dont want to spend the money when I've an engagement ring to buy..
So if theres anybody whos had this problem, or at least knows what the sys
em is doing after it verifies the DMI data which could give me an indication of which bit of the comp is bummed, I'd be most grateful!!!
Cheers,
Dave
