I have got win2003 server SP1 installed. Recently I have noticed the system is very slow.

Whenever I checked the Windows Task Managet (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), I found the "System idle process" consumed 70% of CPU energy.

Though I have been using many utilities to disable all programs that start with windows OS.

Do I need to disable some services as well (I am not familiar with this )?

Kindly look at the link below for details

System idle process should be as high as possible when your not using it.

The Task Manager using 20% of your CPU is more a concern.

Did this start only a few days ago? since you updated? if so check:

As there was problem with the latest patch that could be causing you these problems.

Does that you mean if I used the system the percentage goes lower

As far as i remember it is no related to update.

Have you noticed if there is something abnormal with the "Windows Task Manager" ?

yeah basically the "system idle process" should be 99% if your computer is doing nothing in particular, this means 99% of your CPU is free to use.

The task manager shouldnt really be using 20% CPU.

Do you have automatic updates enabled for windows?

could you post a HiJackThis log just to check there is nothing untowrd on your system?

Option 1 - Download & place the tool in the right place

Download the tool from one these locations and save it to your desktop:

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Many people get confused on where to place the tool. I have seen many users not knowing and placing the tool in the TEMP folder. This is not a good place to place it.
When HijackThis gets used to fix some entries. It automaticlly creates a back-up so we can reverse the fix, if needed.

If this tool was placed in the TEMP folder. Them back-ups will simply be lost.

Create a folder for Hijackthis on the C: drive called C:\HJT, do NOT run it from your Desktop or Temporary files folder.

For example:

C:\HJT\ or C:\Hijackthis\

You can do this by going to My Computer then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.

Extract HijackThis.exe (that is saved in your desktop) from the zip archive into that folder you created.

Option 2 - How to create a HJT log

One really easy step here.

1. Open up HijackThis.
2. Click ok to the warning that may appear.
3. Once it is up an running, click on Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open up notepad once scanned.
4. Click on Save As, of the notepad with the log in and save it to your prefered location.
5. Open the notepad with the log in and click on Edit>Select All. Then Edit>Copy and post your log here.
