System Idle Process......Puzzled????

Hey,

My work comp is from time to time very very slow indeed. So I went into task manager and everytime it happens "system idle process" is at 98%

What is this?

What does it do?

Is this the reason?

Please clarify, please help...

Specs: p4 2.8ghz, 256mb ram, 80g hdd

Hmmm perhaps its the RAM??

That means the system is idling, aka doing nigh on nothing (expect for critical OS-based things).

so why does my system become slow from time to time, slow meaning, processing slowly, when i click on something it takes forever to open or to change from ms outlook to ms word etc etc

any ideas peeps?

Slow network i would bet. If you are on a network.

Could be a few things but when people complain of slow speeds where i work we usually tweak there network settings and things usually speed up considerably.

That part of it sounds like lack of RAM. How much do you have? ah 256...yeah that's your problem

my mrs bought a cheaplaptop with 256mb of ram that exhibits the same tendancies as yours

bought her another gig of crucial memory for £28 delivered

my work PC used to do the same, till the guy next to me left and i "borrowed" his 256mb stick to take mine to 512
