system keeps turning off....!!!

my system has all of a sudden started playing up.... for some reason it just keeps turning off... it happens at random points... could be during boot up or it could be once it has been running for 15 minutes or so...

i have good connections all round and have changed nothing on my PC, it just seems to have started out of the blue!

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly received.

most likely a PSU problem.

darn it... hope not.... looks like better talk to the wife again.... need a new one... maybe my 8800gts has overworked it..... its only a 450w...

agree ^^

could also be an over heating problem, go into the bios and keep an eye on cpu temp for a bit, perhaps the heatsink has become unseated or the cpu fan is dieing

just installed new psu.... still getting the same problem....

maybe try to check temps - if it stays on long enough!!!! having to use my archos at the minute to go online!!!

Cheese way of doing it = take the side of (make sure the CPU fan in particular is spinning).

Aim desk fan inside the PC = win.

It could also be maybe your PC is shorting somehow, that has happened to me once or twice. Probably more likely to be heat related though.

Do the fan approach, and also in BIOS disable the thermal shutdown if you are feeling like taking a risk (or increase the temp threshhold). Feel free to also lookat the temps in BIOS.

Idel temps should be in the low 40's really.

am watching temps in bios now....getting 70 degrees within five minutes- fan running at over 2000rpm.

that seems warm to me. for just running the bios... has to be the answer. or not.... will have to get my another fan to check it.....

It seems to me like the heatsink is making bad contact with the CPU. Try reseating it.

just reput my heatsink on for the fourth time!!! guess what..... IT WORKS!!!!!

system running @ 42c..... thank god... thanks for all you help guys!

atleast i got a new psu (corsair tx650w) out of it, ready for my next gpu!
