System not detecting 6GB of Ram

Hi Guys

Got my Ultimate Viper this morning running on W7 64 bit. I just had a look under system properties and it says that I only have 4GB of RAM installed. I thought the 64bit version can detect more than 4 gigs?

Any help will be much appreciated.

64-bit os is only 1 of the requirements. Motherboard/Bios/Cpu/Chipset/Drivers all need to be 64bit compliant/compatable.
 
It might be a good idea to list your complete system here - but as a rule if you have a Tri-channel set of ram then your motherboard is most certainly suitable for a 6GB set up as too is the CPU. Unless of course you are using 6GB in an older DDR3 based motherboard???

However there are a number of reasons why some folks have only had 4 GB picked up. Most of the time it is a very easy fix depending on your motherboard.
 
It's an Ultima Viper pre built system guys:rolleyes: fairly sure it should all be 64bit compatible! As a pre built system it should also be set up and working properly. Try wiggling or reseating the ram - sometimes that's all it takes. If not get on the phone to OCUK.
 
not 100% sure, but check the bios, iirc there might be a setting in there, will try searching the forums to provide a link.
 
Hmm seems very dtrange that windows is showing 4gb but cpuz shows 6. Try running windows memtest on all 6 gbs or check in task manager if all 6gb is detected.

The ram may of come loose in transit, try removing the sticks and re-inserting them.
 
It would be a good idea to re-seat each stick of ram. Sometimes they do get shifted a bit and that can cause your system to not pick up the full 6GB. But most of the time the voltage settings need to be fine tuned some more.

The thing is it is a preconfigured system so I would hesitate to mess with it. But if it was not a pre-built system I'd recommend turning off XMP profiles and setting voltages and timings manually, basic CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS timings I'd start with is 9-9-9-24 2T with tRFC 110 and tFAW 31 to 39.

Voltage for 3x2GB configurations BCLK lower than 160-180+ and >1600mhz memory speeds, CPU VTT of 1.3-1.4v is needed depending on cpu IMC quality and cpu cooling used.

With 3x2GB configurations 180-200bclk and >1800mhz memory speeds, CPU VTT 1.35-1.55v. For 200+ bclk and 1950+ mhz mem speeds CPU VTT 1.4-1.65v needed.



Ensure that you set to manual and NOT AUTO or XMP and set Bclk, uncore (UCLK) and mem (DRAM) frequencies manually.
