I have just installed a new graphics card and RAM on a Pentium 4 machine and I am not getting the performance I would expect from it. Please may I ask your help?.............

Graphics: GeForce 8800GTS 512MB
RAM: 2x1GB PC4200 (Dual Channel)
CPU: Pentium 4 3.06GHz

Benching with 3dMark06 gives less than 5000 and I would have expected this to be around 10000.

I believe the CPU is holding it back but surely not by that amount?

How would a Pentium 4 3.06GHz CPU compare with a middle of the road Core2 Duo?

I have the latest nVidia driver installed but aren't there some Mobo drivers which include a graphic "GART" driver or something (I remember from way on back). Could this be missing?

I don't have the Mobo drivers and I made a fresh Vista 32bit install on this machine hoping that any drivers would be automatically installed (or at least in WIndows Updates).

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

yeah it's the truth, got a lappy here at home that is P4 - feels absolutely horrible in just about everything compared to my c2d. You can probably pick up a cheap c2d and mobo and ram and overclock the hell out of them. I certainly think that would breathe new life into your GTS!

That CPU is a definate
