My system froze during a game the other day and had to turn off system because the whole of windows froze with it, after i tried to reboot my computer kept getting stuck on error code 25 and then resetting and then getting stuck at 25 again however i reset the bios and it grudgingly booted up and then worked fine for 2 days in and out of games.

I turned the computer off yesterday and not it has the same problem however it wont budge now, constanly restarting and getting stuck at led code 25 with the monitor not turning on at all.

I though it might have been the graphics card so i took it out and bought a new one and installed that this morning and it started up and i entered bios to load optimum defaults, pressed escape to move back out of bios and then the screen went dead!? no the same problem with the new card, getting stuck at led code 25

Any ideas on this one!?

My motherboard is Gigabyte UD7
Intel i7 920
Graphics card old was an ATI 4870 x2
New card is a ATI 5970
I have corsair dominator GT 1600pc 6GB
1200w psu

well, according to your manual, code 25 means:

Early PCI initialization:
- Enumerate PCI bus number
- Assign memory & I/O resource
- Search for a valid VGA device & VGA BIOS, and put it into C000:0

sounds to me like its either a graphics card problem, or a PCIe slot problem. have you tried booting without the graphics card (or booting with the card in a different slot), and see if it still gets stuck at 25?

Put it in a different slot and that's sorted it! What could be wrong with the original pcie slot? Could my old graphics card have broken it??

sounds like its a duff slot then. These things happen. If you're still under warranty, id RMA the board, as there's no guarantee that the same wont happen to the other slots as well

My new graphics card keeps getting bsod when windows starts but my old one works fine? Should I have to reinstall the os?

uninstall then reinstall the drivers as opposed to reinstalling the entire OS. If the drivers dont fix it, the i doubt a fresh install would do much better

I would still hazard a guess that something on the motherboard aint quite right. lets see what other people come up with...

It's weird how my old graphics works fine but he new one keeps crashing though! Surely a fresh install would sort the problem?

Latest bios update (F7) sorted my PCI-e 16-1 slot problem, also booted into safe mode and removed the drivers and used driver sweeper aswell, installed the latest 10.8 cat and all sorted now :)
