Hi Guys,

I only reinstalled windows 2 weeks ago, everything is uptodate etc...

All the basics are covered.

However I suspect the 11.3 ATI drivers are to blame, but some times when I boot my PC up, my ram usage is up from 1Gb which is windows up to 3 or even 4GB of ram, which obviously is slowing my pc down.

I look in the task manager and no process is over your normal 1-2% cpu usage, but ram, ram is being consumed by something.

My pc in my sig I only use for gaming, so there is hardly anything on it.

Only things running in task bar are AVG and Comodo firewall. Its not those causing the issue becuase I been usingthem for years.

This problem has arisen since I update ATI drivers from 11.2 to 11.3.

Do you think its related to the 99% bug some users are reporting?

Im going to try downgrading my drivers back to 11.2 tonight, to see if that sorts the issue out.

i could give you screen shots, but honestly its a default install of windows 7, ATI drivers 11.3 and no process in taskmanager is running over 1-2%, and yet my system ram (well it was yesterday) was nearly 100% utilised, by nothing in particular!

Any ideas?

Don't tell me it is something called "Superfetch" from Windows 7/Vista... If so, there's nothing to worry about. You may even disable Superfetch if you really dislike it. I did find it useful when I was using mechanical hard drives for OS installation a long time ago. Now for SSD, Superfetch is no longer that helpful.

No its defintly not super fetch!

Something is eating up my system ram, when there is no process in taskmanager running beyound 1-2%

I put it down to the ATI 11.3 drivers as only seen this problem since upgrade.

Going to try down grading tonight to see if issue dissapears.

Well I reverted my drivers back to 11.2 and I think all is well now.

However, all this talk of poor AMD drivers by other forum members (which I defend the drivers) and then my own experiences with dodgy drivers, plus the current amazing deals on the SOC 480 and having the cash to buy it, is making me feel very jittery!

Must resist the temptation to buy new gpu. Its not neccessary....

Out of interest would the rest of the pc in my sig push a SOC 480 and get the most out of it, or would I be bottlenecked slightly by cpu and ram? :p

Just a stock 480 is a lot better than my 5870, and the SOC is heavely overclocked!

But I remeber why I bought my 5870 in the first place, becuase its cool and quite.

Hmmm I'm not sure there, maybe a £100 - £125? Perhaps a little bit more actually, bearing in mind yours is a 2gb model.

Unfourtunatly its not worth me selling at £125, I only bought it in September for £300 and so far, it hasnt let me down in any games at all.

The only let down has been the odd driver quirk or bug.

I'm not sure if I'm correct dude, that figure is just off the top of my head. Out of interest, how do you find the frame rates when AA is applied in games? I used to get excellent performance from a 4870X2 until AA was used (in some games).

It sounds about right, becuase you can pick up a brand new 6950 at around £200 and a 1gb 5870 new for £150.

As for performance, every game Iv played I'v maxed out at 1920x1200, with the exception of metro, which was everything max, except MSAA was off (used AAA) and DEP was off.

Was a little bit taxing even at these settings, but I played the game all the way through and finished it, so it was playable.

The AA thing, Im not convined itsa vram thing, as the gpu still needs enough grunt to process the data, the ram just holds it.

Well see how the likes of BF3 and Skyrim run on my gpu and maybe see whats needed then.

My plan was to keep my set up untill windows 8 drops which is rumoured to be in 2012 and then do a full system upgrade, but its hard to hold, when you'v got the cash and all these special offers are flying about!
