System randomly rebooting help

Hi all,
I have a shuttle SN25P and today it has started to play up abit. After a while, the machine just reboots itself, almost as though the reset button had been pressed. I wondered if this was a temperature issue due to the weather, so I backed the processor back to standard clocks (otperon 165) and the temps are all in control. The machine also froze on entry to windows once, so I opted to run memtest to see if the ram had gone bad, and at arround the 70% mark on the first pass the machine again "reset" itself.
I have also noticed that when it does get into windows, it takes a lot longer to load everything than it was doing even compared to this morning. I decided to run the Seagate hard drive diagnostic tool, and the drive failed the "DST-LONG" test.
What do people think is happening? I find it hard to beleive that its the shuttle system at fault (maybe though), and am just about to re run memtest hopefully with better results. Could a hard drive gone bad be causing the machine to power off due to a failsafe??

Any advise greatly recieved.

Cheers
Dan Chambers

It sounds like the HDD is on it's last legs. However, it should'nt cause the machine to restart. Even more so when doing a memtest. Have you got different memory that you could try, even if it's the old stuff as long as it's same type.

Do you hear any strange nosies from the machine, other then the usal nosies?
Try removing the HDD power and IDE/SATA cable to double check and run Memtest again to see what's happening.

Just run through a loop of memtest with no problems, how ever immediately when booting into windows and logging onto my normal account it came up with the Stop:c000021a error. I restarted and logged into an auxilery account, and it worked albit slow and it did come up with a windows has suffered a fatal error, however it is still running.
Earlier I did install FSX, and the hdd was mounted directly above the dvd drive, and obviously it got quite hot. I have since moved the drive to a bay further back so as its not directly over the dvd drive (only just thought about this one).
Is is possible for the system to shut down if the hdd over heats? wondering if this in turn has messed the HDD up or something.
Noise wise its perfectly normal, however the hdd does make more noise when accessing the C sector as apose to the D or E sector.
PSU is the std shuttle 350W psu (stupidly powerful little things), bout 12 months old.

Cheers for any further adivse guys

only thing you can do at this point is to swop out parts for known good parts if you have them available.. or you try your system with a bare minimum of harware in it. Other things you can try is trying another PSU, different memory..

If you have tried every thing you can then it could be a flakey mobo or perhaps a virus

Just run Seatool long generic and long drive self tests, and it failed both. The cpu has done 8 hours orthos no issues, memory ok on mem test. Just can't understand how the hdd would cause the machine to reboot
