My computer which has worked fine is now refusing to boot in to windows xp.

It loads, shows the windows loading screen, then blue screens for half a second and restarts.

If I try to load in safe mode the same thing happens.

Ive tried the windows repair, but that freezes on checking the hard disk...

Any ideas please?

Find the manufacturer of your hard drive and grab the HDD utils from the website. Run it and see if you have any bad sectors or anything on your drive. It should then try and self right itself.

After that, then run the repair util. :)

No problems found by the hdd utilities.

When trying a repair it still freezes while checking the hdd.

Im thinking it is the hdd which has the problem, but am wary about buying a new one incase it is a problem with something else. The system is a barton 2500, so if it is something else wrong im looking at a new system with everything moving so quick since it was bought.

So now the question is - does it sound like a hdd problem, or could it be motherboard or something else?

Thanks for the help....
